The History of Panzerotto Pizza

The Original Story “A Tasty Treat”
Panzerotto Pizza is a Canadian owned company that has been serving great Panzerotto Pizza and traditional style Pizza since 1976. Panzerotto Pizza has 35 locations in Toronto, Mississauga, Brampton, Oakville, Richmond Hill Ajax-Pickering and Whitby. Our menu consists of Panzerotto, Gourmet Pizza, Hot Sandwiches, Salads & Pasta, Fries, Onion Rings, Wedges and more. It all began with the experience gained by Alex as a chef cooking gourmet dishes in Chicago in the early 1950’s. After a long absence from the foodservice industry, he opened his first Italian restaurant in Collingwood, Ontario in 1969. During this period, Alex discovered that the “Panzerotto”, native to Modugno, Italy (the recipe is authentic from the family’s village), became a popular tasty treat among the residents of Collingwood. With demand for the Panzerotto on the rise, he decided to expose the tasty treat to a bigger market. Alex decided to sell the restaurant in Collingwood and start the first Panzerotto Pizza location on Yonge St. in downtown Toronto.

In the beginning sales of panzerottos were very low because the panzerotto was unknown to the market. But it wasn’t long before word of mouth was spreading the news on this tasty new product. Soon there was demand by people willing to share in the success of the panzerotto. In 1980 Alex decided to expand the company through franchising and was able to attract investors in opening new locations.

Today there are 35 Panzerotto Pizza locations in the GTA. The company has developed brand equity in the name through years of marketing. A large segment of the market is now familiar with the panzerotto and is constantly growing.

Panzerotto Pizza are experts in catering to businesses, schools and hospitals. No order is too large to accommodate your group and Panzerotto Pizza can be there for your quarterly meetings, inventory counts, sales meetings, retirement parties, fund-raising events employee appreciation days, hospitals catering, school cafeteria and pizza days.

Innovative Leading Edge Company

In a unique combination of food service and high-tech communication, Panzerotto Pizza was the first to provide the first multi-unit city-wide pizza delivery service on the Internet on April 1 1995. Internet users can go to www.panzerottopizza.com and click on their favourite menu items. Orders are sent directly to the call centre and processed for delivery. Panzerotto Pizza is constantly working to better service customers and their changing needs.

In 1996, Alex bought a chain of Chicken restaurants called the Wing Machine. Today there are 14 Wing Machine locations in the GTA operated by Panzerotto Pizza.

Alex is now retired and leaves the day-to-day operation of the business to his sons.
